Depending on how you have it set, the charging base of a Tineco vacuum mop can be a little problematic. Usually, the device just has trouble sitting on the base.

Whenever that happens, your Tineco vacuum mop won’t charge and will just show a message like “Please place appliance on charging base”. If all this sounds familiar, here are some tips to fix it!

I also have a short video which shows how I fixed this problem when I experienced it on my Tineco vacuum mop. You can watch it below.

To solve this, I press the vacuum mop up towards the charging base so that it would start to detect and charging. If this doesn’t work, use an alcohol pad to clean the charging contact point both on the vacuum mop and the charging base.

  1. Adjust The Charging Base

The contact points on these charging bases are right in the center, facing inward. That’s why the vacuum mop has to sit completely straight on them to meet the points and start charging.

I’m telling you this because your vacuum may not be standing fully upright. This can happen whenever the base isn’t sitting completely flat and is at an angle.

When the charging station is at an angle, the Tineco vacuum mop will lean slightly away from it. It won’t make contact with the charging points. There’s a really easy way to confirm this.

All you have to do is turn the charging base on and then place the vacuum on top like the image below. Instead of letting it go though, push the vacuum up straight with your hands.

push the vacuum upward on the base

Your charging base isn’t placed properly if pushing the vacuum mop up with your hands got it to start charging. Or maybe you’re putting the vacuum down the wrong way.

Either way, mess around with the placement a little to stop this from happening in the future. If you have the charging base on a carpet, try to place it somewhere completely flat.

Start pressing the vacuum mop against the base when you put it down too. Don’t release it until you feel like it’s standing up straight.

Don't release it until you feel like it's standing up straight.

All of this sounds obvious and dumb, but something as simple as placement is why this happens most of the time, especially to newer users.

  1. Clean The Vacuum’s Contact Points

There are contact points on the Tineco vacuum mop that connect to the ones on the charging base. If they don’t come into contact with the base, the machine won’t charge.

Clean The Vacuum's Contact Points

Vacuums are always coming into contact with dirt and junk. All that gets on the tool itself, and that’s why it’s important for users to clean their vacuums too.

Cleaning the contact points on the Tineco vacuum mop is important as well because of that. If these points ever get too dirty, they won’t make proper contact with the charging base.

Luckily, it isn’t too hard to do. You just need an alcohol pad. Once you have that, wipe the charging plate on your vacuum mop clean with it like I’m doing in this picture:

I recommend using a dry cloth or paper towels to wipe off the contact points once you use an alcohol wipe on them too. The wipes can wet the plates, which is dangerous while charging.

  1. Clean The Charger’s Contact Points

While they don’t get dirty as often as the contact points on the vacuum, you could try cleaning the ones on the charging base too. That should rule out any non-technical issues.

The process is pretty much the same as cleaning the vacuum mop’s contact points. First, you need an alcohol pad to wipe away debris and dirt the way I’m doing down here.

Then, dry it off by rubbing a dry cloth all over the charging plates. That will be enough to get rid of any obstructions stopping the contact points from meeting each other!
