When I realized I can’t do without power tools in the house, I settled for the Craftsman tools. But it’s not enough to acquire a tool even when it’s the good type.

Besides having Craftsman tools, for example, I must remind myself that their batteries need to be replaced from time to time.

Is it not too expensive to keep on replacing batteries, you might ask. Well, of course, battery replacement is an extra cost, but I’ve found a way around that problem.  Once I notice my Craftsman battery is not working well, I just recharge it.

a Craftsman 20v battery.

So, I must always have my charger on standby, right? Not really. After all, it’s not always that low battery charge is the problem.

Sometimes I have no clue what the problem is, and it might even be there’s some dirt clogging the battery system – or something like that and it won’t charge.

The three techniques I use to make my weak v20 battery usable again are simple. Sometimes I use another Craftsman v20 battery, other times a DeWALT v20 battery, and there are times I use a DC power supply.

for the first technique you need another Craftsman 20v battery.

Let me take you through these techniques one by one.

I also made a short video in which I showed the different ways how to reset a Craftsman 20v battery without using a charger. You can watch it below.

In the video below, I showed how to reset a Craftsman 20V battery by using another Craftsman battery with similar specs, by using an 18V–20V battery from another brand, and by using a DC power supply.

3 Ways to Reset Craftsman v20 Battery Without Charger

  1. Using a Craftsman v20 Battery:
  • I first identify the terminals on both batteries: each of them has a positive terminal marked B+ and a negative one marked B-.
  • Next, I connect the two Craftsman v20 batteries, B+ to B+ and B- to B- using a piece of electric power supply cable.
  • I then leave them this way for approximately 15 seconds.

connect the two batteries by using a cable.

That’s all I do, and I find that whatever was making my battery not work is cleared within that short time.

  1. Using a DeWALT v20 Battery:
  • Here also, I identify the terminals on each of the two v20 batteries – the Craftsman and the DeWALT.
  • I then connect these terminals: B+ to B+ and B- to B-.
  • Even here, I leave the two v20 batteries connected for about 15 seconds.

By the time I disconnect my Craftsman v20 battery from the DeWALT, the Craftsman is back in shape. In other words, the DeWALT v20 has managed to reset my faulty battery.

you can also use an 18V–20V battery from another brand.

  1. Using a DC Power Supply
  • Here, I begin by switching on my DC power supply.
  • Then I use the right knobs on the power supply to set the voltage to 20v and the current to 1 Amp.
  • Next, I use a piece of electric power supply cable to connect the B+ terminal on my Craftsman v20 battery to the power supply’s positive terminal. I also connect the battery’s B- terminal to the power supply’s negative terminal.
  • Even here, I leave the two gadgets connected for around 15 minutes, and by the time I switch off the power supply my battery’s problem is gone.

set the voltage to 20v and the current to 1 Amp.

Knowing how to reset my Craftsman battery saves me a lot of inconveniences and unnecessary costs.
