Whether you want to maintain your beard or groom the rest of your body, Philips trimmers are really helpful. They’re reasy to use, durable, and reliable.

But, your Philips trimmer won’t be of much help if it is not working.

Sometimes it would have problem like it is not turning off even you press the On/Off button multiple times.

That’s what I’m here to help with today! Just go through the possible reasons and fixes I’ve listed below to get ahead of the problem.

Philips Trimmer  Not Working

  1. Make Sure It’s Fully Disconnected

A feature I really appreciate with wireless Philips trimmers are the safety locks. These basically prevent the device from working if you have it plugged in to avoid safety issues.

No one needs to be told that it’s dangerous to use any device in the shower or near any kind of water when it’s plugged in to power.

But, just in case you make a mistake, Philips has your back.

My point in telling you all of this is that make sure your trimmer doesn’t have any wires connected to it.

The blades won’t work when plugged in to avoid any mishaps, so unplugging everything should get it working again.

It’s a quick fix, and usually the most common one for new users that don’t know about this.

  1. Take Care of The Clippers

A trimmer helps keep you clean, and you should repay the favour by keeping it clean to. By this, I mean you should prevent the clippers and blades from getting dirty or overloaded with hair.

You’ll notice every time you use these devices that some hair gets stuck to the top.

If you don’t get rid of this hair and let it build up, it can eventually make the entire trimmer stop working.

I have a Philips trimmer myself, and you can see how squeaky clean its blades and attachments are below

I recommend rinsing each of these after you use them, and make sure there’s no hair or dirt on them.

If your particular Philips trimmer shouldn’t be washed, I suggest you just use a cloth to clean its top.

The more you take care of the device the longer it will last you, and prevent problems like this one.

  1. Lubricate The Blade and Check Blockage

If you’ve been neglecting your trimmer for too long, just washing it might not be enough. In some cases, people might need to use oil to lubricate the blade.

Some Philips trimmers actually come with their own oil for this. But, you can use just about any mineral oil to get the job done.

You should detach the top and put some oil inside, like I did in the image below.

But don’t do that without proper guidance as it’s different depending on the model. You could see your particular device’s model to get a better idea.

Also, after the lubrication, you may notice some extra oils coming from the edge.

It is normal, just wipe it with cloth and it should work fine after a period of time.

Another thing you should try is to turn on the trimmer with the blade removed.

This helps you to easily monitor whether there is anything stuck inside the trimmer.

If the trimmer spin as usual, it is in good condition.

  1. Dead Battery

If none of the simpler solutions so far worked, I’m sorry to say that your Philips trimmer’s battery might be dead.

It’s a small device with not that many possible issues. So, if nothing I’ve said at this point was helpful, it’s time to consider there’s something wrong with the battery that’s stopping the device from working.

I have recorded a video on how to troubleshoot the Philips trimmer battery related problem, like not charging, etc.

One important thing I would like to point out is that you should always test the trigger or “On/Off” button of your Philips trimmer.

At minute 0.35 of the video above, you can see how I test whether the trigger if working fine or not.

If you have a model that runs on AA batteries, this isn’t that big of a deal for you. You can simply remove the batteries and get new ones in that case.

But, those with other types of Philips trimmers that have batteries like this one below will have to get their current battery replaced by more difficult means.

When you have a new battery, everything should be good. It’s normal for these to die with continued use, so needing a replacement after a long time of use is normal, and not that difficult either.

The last thing I would like to point out is that clean the excessive hair trapped inside the trimmer is important.

As you can see from the image above, there are quite a lot of hair trapped inside, which might affect its functionality.
