An indicator on top of the Kobalt charger will let users know whatever’s going on with their battery. The indicators even have signs next to them that share what they mean.
Those signs don’t provide heaps of info about each indicator though. To find out more about the meanings of your Kobalt battery charger indicator, read through the stuff below.
Explaining Different Kobalt Battery Charger Indicator Meanings
- Kobalt Charger Indicator Flashing Green
There are two indicators on a Kobalt charger—one on the left side, and one on the right. The left indicator will only show green lights, and the right will only show red ones.
When the left indicator starts flashing green, that means your Kobalt battery is charging ideally. There aren’t any issues with the battery or its current charging cycle.
Your charger should look like mine does in the image above whenever you plug a battery into it. The indicator will stay this way until charging is fully complete.
- Kobalt Charger Indicator Displaying Solid Green
Another way the indicator on the left can shine is a simple solid green. There won’t be any changes to the light and it’ll simply stay green without any flashes.
This static green light is a sign that your Kobalt battery is done charging. It’s at 100% of its capacity and safe to remove from the charger once you see the light below.
There’s nothing to worry about a full charging light and no special precautions to take. However, if you’re worried about overcharging, remove the battery after seeing this light pop up.
- Kobalt Charger Indicator Displaying Solid Red
Now it’s time for the lights on the right indicator. This one can only shine red in different ways, one of which includes a solid red light.
This solid red light is an indicator that the Kobalt battery is suffering from Hot/Cold delay. Look at the picture below to know what to expect if this ever happens.
Hot/Cold delay is another term for overheating or overcooling batteries. When their temperature is too high or too cold, the charger automatically delays their charging.
This is done to prevent damage to the cells. Charging batteries when they’re at drastic temperatures can cause instability and other issues, which can end up being dangerous.
I suggest getting the Kobalt battery off its charger ASAP whenever you notice this solid red light. Don’t try to charge it until the battery comes back to a normal temperature.
- Kobalt Charger Indicator Flashing Red
The last indicator on the Kobalt charger I’ll talk about is the flashing red light, which is the worst one of them all to see.
The reason why it’s so bad is that a solid red light means your Kobalt battery is dead. The charger can’t send power to it anymore, meaning it won’t charge.
As long as the light from the photo above stays blinking, the Kobalt battery won’t be charging. It’s likely showing up because one of the cells inside your battery has gone bad.
Kobalt batteries have a pack of cells inside them, each one responsible for powering the entire battery. When even a single cell loses its voltage, the whole battery stops working.
You can try to restore the voltage of the cells by resetting them through a jumpstart as shown in the video below. That may revive the cells and get the whole battery working again.
However, if your Kobalt battery is really old, that trick might not work. You may have to end up buying a new one, because this ones time is up and it won’t power tools for you any longer.
