There are instances when you really need to reset your 20V Stanley Fatmax battery in order to make it work again. This article talks about the three different ways you can do this without using a charger.

But before you continue reading this article, you may want to watch first the short video I made about this topic. You can find it on my YouTube channel but you can also watch it below.

On my video, I demonstrated the different ways I did this by using another healthy 20V Stanley Fatmax battery, a similar battery from another brand, and by using a DC power supply.

3 Ways to Reset Stanley Fatmax Battery Without Charger

1st Method – Using Another 20V Stanley Fatmax Battery

Luckily for me I had another battery that was in perfect condition laying around and it helped me revive my dead battery back to life.

Using Another 20V Stanley Fatmax Battery

I started by identifying the positive and negative terminals on both of the batteries and fortunately Stanley Fatmax batteries have these terminals pointed out by usually using B+ marking for positive terminals and B- for negative terminals.

Once I had these terminals sorted out, I took a pair of jumper wire cables and connected positive to positive and negative to negative terminals together.

Let them connect for 15 seconds before disconnecting them.

Let them connect for 15 seconds before disconnecting them. This should send enough power to the dead battery to bring it back to life.

2nd Method – Reset Using Battery of Another Brand

For this method to work I had to make sure I was using a battery that was at least 18V or 20V. Finally I found my trusty old friend DeWALT 20V battery to help me fix the Stanley Fatmax battery and reset it.

Using Battery of Another Brand

Once again I started looking for B+ and B- terminals and both the batteries had marked their terminals neatly on the top of the cover. Take your time while identifying these terminals as you don’t want to fry your battery up.

Once I found them, I connected the positive terminal to the positive of DewALT and the negative terminal of the dead battery to the negative of the healthy battery.

After 15 seconds of them connected together, disconnect them and that should be enough to reset your battery without a charger.

3rd Method – Reset Using DC Power Supply

The last method you can try to reset your Stanley Fatmax battery is to reset it using a power supply. I started by setting the output voltage of the battery to match the dead battery’s output which was 20V.

20V and 1A.

You want to make sure that the output voltage of the power supply is equal to the output voltage of your dead battery, for me it was 20V and 1A.

Then I connected the positive terminal of my power supply to the positive terminal of the battery and then I did the same process with the negative terminals.

let battery and power supply stay connected for around 15 seconds

After 15 seconds of my power supply being hooked up to the batteries I turned off the DC power supply and removed the wires. This was enough to send a jolt of electricity down the dead battery and help it reset.
