Greenworks chargers have an indicator that starts glowing whenever users put a battery inside. That indicator signals important things, like when charging is complete.
The symbols on the charger aren’t enough for some to understand what each light means. That’s why I made this guide on the meaning of Greenworks battery charger lights to help!
Meaning of Greenworks Battery Charger Lights – Explained
- Green Light Flashing on Greenworks Charger
Just now, I mentioned how an indicator will start glowing whenever users put a battery in their Greenworks charger. Well, most of the time, that indicator will flash green.
That’s due to the fact that a blinking green light indicates normal charging. Anytime the charger looks like the image below, that means the Greenworks battery is charging fine.
While it’s not exactly harmful, I recommend waiting for this light to go away before removing the battery. Constantly putting a battery on charge and removing it could damage it.
- Green Light Staying Solid on Greenworks Charger
Speaking of the flashing green light going away, that only happens when the battery is at 100%. Once that time comes, the indicator will change to another pattern.
That pattern is the solid green light, which signals a fully charged Greenworks battery. It will come up at the end of every full charging cycle.
There aren’t any special details to note about the light from the picture above. It’s just letting users know their battery finished charging, and there’s no special care to take while it’s on.
Although, it’s best to remove the battery soon after the light shows up. Letting it stay on there for hours after it’s at 100% could lead to overcharging or overheating.
- Red Light Staying Solid on Greenworks Charger
Immediately take your Greenworks battery out of its charger if you notice an unchanging red light on it. I’m not overreacting when I say it could lead to serious harm otherwise.
A solid red light means the battery currently charging is at unsafe temperatures. Here’s what this warning indicator will look like if it ever shows up for you.
While the light usually is a result of overheating, it could be because of overcooling too. Overcooling is much less likely between the two but can be just as dangerous.
Whether or not the battery is too cold or too hot doesn’t matter. Main thing is that it’s TOO unsafe to continue charging it for the time being, so take it off as soon as you can.
Bringing a battery back to safe temperatures after it overheats or overcools is easy enough. You just need to be patient and store it in a normal environment for a few hours.
Leaving it by your bedside while you sleep overnight is enough to cool it down (or warm it back up) to normal. Just don’t rush things and try to charge it before it’s ready.
- Red Light Flashing on Greenworks Charger
A flashing red light isn’t as immediately dangerous as a solid one. However, I’d argue it’s even worse to see between the two.
The red light will only blink if users put a bad battery on the charger. In other words, if you see the pattern from this picture, your Greenworks battery is likely dead.
While this light can be a false alarm because of dirty contact points or bad chargers, that’s not often the case. It almost always means the battery truly is no longer fit to use.
I have a video showing you what to do if the Greenworks battery is not charging normally.
The main reason must have to do with the cells inside the Greenworks battery losing their voltage. So, you could attempt to reset them or replace them to fix the battery.
