GFCI Plug Adapter Won’t Reset

Last weekend my dishwasher stopped working completely without any underlying issues, I had just bought it 3 months ago and it worked perfectly when I washed the first batch of my dishes.

I knew when it stopped working it was not the dishwasher that was the problem but something else.

To make things more clear for myself I pushed the test button on the GFCI plug to see if it worked properly or not, the plug clicked and the light went out but only for it to never come back again.

I pressed the reset button and the plug did not reset itself and I knew the problem was the GFCI plug itself.

But before you continue reading this article, you may want to watch first the short video I’ve made about this topic. I’ve uploaded it on my YouTube channel but you can also watch it below.

On my video, I demonstrated the steps on how to replace the entire GFCI plug adapter.

So if you are also facing a problem like this or you want to change the GFCI plug on your appliance follow my steps to replace it in no time.

opening the screws around the lower plastic cover of the plug.

Solution? Well replacing is the only option for me as the plug has been grounded and there is an internal problem with the plug. I began with opening the screws around the lower plastic cover of the plug.

There are several screws but opening 4 from the below are enough to access the wires and remove them from the plug.

4 more screws to remove

For some reason these plug secure the wires with great power and I was greeted with 4 more screws to remove which when I removed the wires could be easily taken out of the plug.

You can use a Philip head screwdriver to remove these small metal screws and if you are confused as to what screwdriver is that its the one that has a “+” like head.

I removed the wires

Once the wires were out and the plug was separated I ran to my nearest hardware store and bought myself a brand new plug to be fitted with my dishwasher, if you are not sure where to find this plug you can either order it on amazon or get it cheaply from your nearest hardware store just ask for GFCI plug.

I finally tested the plug again by putting in the power outlet

Once everything was set I opened its plastic cover and removed all the screws to place the wire back in. Make sure to place the wire in the right way and properly secure it in place by tightening all the screws.

Once everything was done I finally tested the plug again by putting in the power outlet and pressing the test button, the light once again went out but by pressing the reset button the light came back and the dishwasher started working correctly once again.
