Bosch 12V Battery Charger Light Meanings – Solid & Blinking Green

Bosch 12V Battery Charger Light Meanings - Solid & Blinking Green

Do feeling of the lights on that battery charger can be a real headache. Recently I spent some time with my faithful Bosch 12V charger bothering to figure out what exactly the steady green glow wanted to say to me. When the green LED shines flat without a battery, it only shows that the charger works well and is ready to charge something.

Any flash, any burst. Only stable, steady light that tells you that it stands ready. Not too fancy, but good to know what that signal means.

At least now I do not need to ask myself whether it really charges or only sits here doing nothing.

Putting the Bosch 12V battery in its charging place was the next step. That little lithium-ion battery cell is standard for their 12V line, with around 1.5 amp hours. When it touched, the steady green LED changed and started to blink.

Solid vs Blinking Green Light Meanings on Bosch 12V Battery Charger

When I pressed the battery in the place, the green light on the charger started to blink rather than stay solid. The blinking green signals seem to point that it actively charges the battery. I watched it blink steadily for a while, only to confirm that it does not flash randomly…

No, the blinking lasted until the battery needed more energy. I guess that they use different light modes to show charging against full charge.

I left the battery on the charger and returned after some time had passed. The blinking light stopped, now the solid green LED again shined, even with the battery still connected. That surprised me first, because solid light usually shows ready state, not when a battery is plugged in.

When you see solid green light on your battery charger, it can point to two different causes. It might mark that the battery is fully charged and the charger passed to holding mode. Or it might mean that the battery is too warm or too cold for safe charging.

The hard part is that you not always can tell in one look. If the battery sat on the charger a good while and now shines strongly, it probably is ready to use. But if you recently took a warm battery from use and put it directly in the charger, that green light most probably shows that the battery needs to cool down first.

It a bit bothers that the same signal can mean two fully different causes, but I guess that the engineers thought that folks will read it based on the context. No fancy sign of charging shows here, only one LED does its work. But that really is enough to know. Leave it work when the light blinks, and you will be ready when it again holds steady.
