I have been using my Bissell Little Green Proheat cleaner for a long time to clean my carpets and my car interior. As a gearhead and a professional worker I use it on a daily basis, but a few days ago I encountered my first problem with it.
The Bissell Little Green Proheat would not provide any sort of suctioning power at all. It all started when I took it out to clean the front seats of my car free of stains but my cleaner just wouldn’t work at all.
This was the first time in a year that my Bissell Little Green Proheat gave me this problem and left me confused. That’s when I realized I needed to take matters into my own hands and that’s where I found these 4 reasons as to why my cleaner wouldn’t work.
By the way, I also made a short video about this topic and you can watch it first before you continue reading this article. You can watch it below.
On my video, I checked for any leakage around the hose or the connector. I also checked if the dirty water tank is not seated properly, or if its seal valve is not closed properly, or if it’s already full.

4 Reasons Why Your Bissell Little Green Proheat Not Suctioning Not Picking Up
So if you are also stuck with your Bissell Little Green Proheat not suctioning, don’t worry I will help you fix them.
Reason 1 – Check For Leakages
This is one of the most common reasons for your Bissell Little Green Proheat to not work properly and it certainly was for me. After a full year of using and dragging its hose to tiny corners of my car it has definitely sustained some damages.
Make sure there is no leakage around the suctioning hose connector and the hose itself, this will lead to the cleaner to lose suction and not work at all. Pro tip? Well I just use a mix of soapy water and apply it on the hose to detect any leakages.
Reason 2 – Dirty Water Tank is not Seated Properly
The Bissell Little Green Proheat cleaner can cause low suction and work at all if the dirty water tank is not seated properly on its inlet valves on the cleaner. There are two vents in the dirty water tank of the cleaner and one is very crucial to ensure the cleaner works as intended.
If the valves are blocked the Bissell Little Green Proheat won’t provide suction and will not work as intended. Make sure to check if the dirty water tank is seated properly and there is no blockage in the inlet and outlet valve of the tank.
Reason 3 – Dirty Water Tank is not Sealed Properly
For a very long time I wondered what was the purpose of the rubber valve on top of the dirty water tank until one day I had to sit on the internet to fix my Bissell Little Green Proheat to work properly. It’s called a “duck-bill” valve and it works as an air inlet during the suctioning process.
Make sure the dirty water tank is sealed with this valve properly, if it’s not sealed properly the suctioning will not work and the cleaner would not suck in the water. Ensuring it was sealing my dirty water tank properly fixed the problem for entirely.
Reason 4 – Dirty Water Tank is Full
This is one of those beginners mistakes that everyone makes and trust me, I made it too. One of the reasons why your Bissell Little Green Proheat is not suctioning can be also because the dirty water tank is full and is not able to hold anymore water in.
