The lights on an Amazon Basics battery charger are a lot more confusing to navigate than some of the other chargers I’ve covered regarding this topic. But, that’s just because they’re a little different.
Keep going if you want the details regarding these tiny lights on an Amazon basics battery charger and their meaning. I covered all the possibilities and some extra, important details down below!
Lights On An Amazon Basics Battery Charger and Their Meaning
- Solid Green Light
When you plug the charger into an outlet, it’ll immediately start glowing solid green light. This light is at the center, between the two other lights on an Amazon Basics battery charger.
This light’s purpose is to just let users know that the charger is on, and ready to charge any batteries you insert into it. Here’s a picture of what it should look like after you turn the charger on:
- Solid Red Light
Once you insert 4 compatible cells across the Amazon Basics charger, it’ll start showing two solid red lights. One of these will be on the left, and the other on the right.
Both of the lights from the photo below are to let users know that both pairs of cells are charging. There aren’t any complications if the light is staying solid instead of blinking.
The light on the left indicates the status of the two batteries on the left, and the light on the right indicates the status of the batteries on the right. That’s why there are two separate ones, instead of a single light.
- Blinking Red Light
On occasion, after putting batteries into the charger, you’ll see the red light flash instead of staying solid. This means that there’s an issue with the cells on that side of the charger.
If the red light on the left is blinking, that means there’s an issue with the pair of cells on the left. The same goes for the ones on the right. Here’s what the blinking will look like when it happens:
This usually only happens if the cells you’re trying to charge are dead. It can also happen if you put incompatible cells inside the charger, like non-rechargeable alkaline batteries.
Never put batteries like that in the charger. It’s a safety risk, and could also ruin the charger. After seeing the red blinking light, it’s usually best to take the problematic cells out immediately.
- Red Light Replaced By Green Light
I mentioned how the solid green light shows up when you turn on the charger as a sign that it’s ready to charge batteries. But, after a while, the solid green light also replaces the solid red lights.
When you see this light after the solid red lights, it means that charging is complete. The cells inside are fully charged, and you can now take them off.
- Solid Red Light On Only One Side
Earlier, I talked about how there are two lights for each side of the charger. Well, if you only see a solid red light on one side, that means only the pair of cells on that side are charging.
For example, look at the image above. You can see that only the left red light is on. That’s because there’s only a pair of cells on the left side of the charger, so it’s indicating that they’re charging normally.
There’s only one cell on the right, so it won’t charge that one on its own. Two cells of the same type need to be together on the Amazon Basics charger for it to power them. Singular cells won’t charge.
