For a very long time I had this question in the back of mind, what battery is the best? Is it the AmazonBasics AA battery or the Eneloop AA battery?
This was not a sudden question that popped up in my brain but rather the struggle of recharging these batteries 5 times a week aroused curiosity.
So here I am testing both AmazonBasics and Eneloop rechargeable batteries head to head to see which one is worth the price they ask for and which one can last me longer and save me the hassle of charging them again and again.
I also made a short video about the test I did for this comparison and you can watch it below.
On the video I made, I showed how I did the test by running both pair of batteries on hand held fans. The fan which ran on the Eneloop batteries lasted 30 minutes longer than the one which ran on AmazonBasics batteries.
AmazonBasics vs Eneloop: Which Rechargeable Battery Is the Best?
First I started off by checking the rated capacity of both the batteries using my Powerex C9000 Pro battery analyzer which will help me determine the correct internal capacity of both the batteries.
I’m analyzing the batteries to see if they are healthy before starting the experiment. This also provided me with the real capacities these batteries can hold.

Both the AmazonBasics and the Eneloop come with a rated capacity of 2000 mAh which makes this comparison even more fun to conduct for me.

The real results came from the battery tester and they were as follows, both the Eneloop batteries were able to store 2031 mAh and 1957 mAh while the AmazonBasics batteries held 1955 mAh and 1983 mAh.
Now that it was confirmed that both the pairs of batteries were in fact healthy I could finally start with my experiment.

I started by charging both the batteries to their full capacity and then inserting them into a hand held fan that I bought from a local store.
These fans would help me estimate the runtime of both the batteries by leaving it on overnight to see which can last the longest. I setted a camera to monitor the fans and came back the next morning to check the results.
- AmazonBasics – 9 hours and 55 minutes
- Eneloop – 10 hours and 27 minutes
It was a very close competition but the winner came out to be the Eneloop AA batteries in the end as it went on to last 30 minutes more than the AmazonBasics battery.
These extra 30 minutes can prove to be very crucial in emergency situations or when you are going camping with your friends and family. For me the Eneloop would be my personal choice for now as it is worth the extra price it asks for.
