For a very long time I wondered what the solid red light indicator on my battery charger meant. I was familiar with the flashing green and the solid green but when I was greeted with the solid red light all the confusion began there.
I always knew there was a solid right light indicator on the charger but it was not until yesterday when my SKIL PWRCORE charger showed me that light. It means that the battery is either too cold or too hot to be charged safely.
While I knew what this light meant I did not know how to fix it. So as always I went on the internet and started to look for some solutions.
I also made a short video about this topic and you can watch it below.
If it’s a hot delay, remove it from the charger and put it indoor to decrease the temperature. If it’s a cold delay, put it at a warm place for it to return to normal temperature. If it still shows a red light even at normal temperature, you may need to reset the battery.
SKIL PWRCORE Battery Solid Red Light: What it Means and What You Should Do
Here is what to do when your SKIL PWRCORE battery shows a solid red light.
Wait Until the Battery Reaches Room Temperature
The very first thing that you should do when your SKIL PWRCORE battery shows a solid red light on charging is to leave it to cool down or warm depending on the condition on which your battery stopped charging.
The battery has an internal thermostat that reads its temperature and sends it to the charger to stop it from charging if the internal temperature is not safe.
This is a safety feature found in most of the batteries. My battery got really hot after using it under direct sun and leaving it in a cool room fixed the problem for me and helped me get it back to charging.
What To Do When the Hot/Cold Delay Wouldn’t Go Away?
Now this is a weird part, sometimes after you let your battery cool down or warm up (if too cold) it might still not charge and continue to show the solid red light on the charger.
Remember that thermostat I talked about? Well it doesn’t restarts and thinks the battery is still unsafe to charge. Reset the battery using the steps below to reset it.
1. I grabbed a perfectly healthy fully charged SKIL PWRCORE battery, any other brand of battery will also work for the reset just to make sure the voltages are similar. Then I identified the + and – terminals on the battery.
2. Then, I connected both the batteries (dead and healthy) together using a male to male jumper cable, positive to positive and negative to negative. I let them sit connected for about 15 seconds before disconnecting them.
3. The battery was reset even before I knew it and it was charging like new again. Follow the same steps to reset your battery and make the error go away.
