Trimming back tangles and dull lines is no fun. Fortunately, it’s easy to keep the Worx system running like new without any hidden tricks or special tools.
Just a little patience is all it takes.
Reloading the Trimmer Line
Opening the head is your first step. Squeeze the two side tabs on the cap together to release the mechanism. Then, lifting the cap off is far less difficult than expected. While working, the head remain connected to the shaft.
You do not need to wrestle with the entire tool.
After removing the cap, you retrieve the old spool. It’s always got a few strand of leftover line all tangled up in there. So you clear that away to make room for the new line. A clean spool will run the mechanism smoother.
Now your hands are covered with grass clippings, which can be kinda greasy, but you wash them off.
Then you grab a new piece of trimmer line, and prep for threading. There is holes in the spool where the line feeds out. The key is to start with the line going into the hole in the spool. Locking the line into position requires it to be just right.
If you let your line slip, it’s all for nothing.
Feed your line and then you turn your spool to wind your line clockwise. That winds your line in the channel and it locks it well. A simple twist matter. Because it’s locked, it doesn’t move while in use. When you get done winding it on tight, it helps keep your line from tangling.
Load the spool up and then re-insert it into the trimmer head. Note how it has to be placed correctly in order for the feed mechanism to function. The line should extend out of eyelet on the head, which is where the actual cutting takes place.
If it doesn’t go through the eyelet, you’re not there yet.
Then you snap that cap back in place. It closes and “clicks” into position. Closing the spool cap secures everything inside. Now it’s all put back together and time to test it out. Make sure your cap is tight.
There is no looseness.
Before cranking the motor, you run through the feed function. You hold the release lever and pull the trigger, then press the feed button to push line out. Then you press the feed button to push the line out to check if the mechanism is functioning properly. If it’s not, the line won’t come out at all.
Now you’re ready to cut. And then what? Wait for it. Nope. Not yet. Wait for it. That’s it. After running it across the trigger again (making sure that there’s plenty of line coming out), the trimmer is balanced and ready.
A brief test run confirms the new line comes out straight. Knowing how to reload the line takes only moments. In no time, you’ve finished the job. There’s nothing complicated about reloading your line with the trimmer. Just press, pull, and feed.
When you use the correct technique, you’ll save some time in the garden. You never have to guess. Ever. The design is logical and easy to follow, so regular line maintenance make sense. The old line goes out and the new one comes in. Next time the line becomes dull, you won’t hesitate to reload.
