There might be an instance when you would encounter an issue with your Sharper Image Massage Gun like it won’t turn on or it won’t work. This article talks about the possible reasons why this happens and the solutions you can do to fix this issue.
But before you go on reading this article, you may first watch the short video I made about this topic. You can watch it down below.
On my video I demonstrated how to fix this issue by checking is there’s an issue with its display panel, motor, or battery. It’s also important to know that you can’t use your Sharper Image massage gun while it’s charging.
4 Reasons Why Sharper Image Massage Gun Not Turning On Not Working
Reason 1 – Massager is on Charge
I found this out in the most hard way possible but the Sharper Image Massager doesn’t work when it is plugged on charging.
Sometimes it can be important to use it but it doesn’t have any charging on but its a safety feature of the massager which stops it from working when put on charging.
So if you are trying to turn it on make sure to remove the charger first and then use it normally.
Reason 2 – Display Panel Problem
The display of the Sharper Image massage gun controls everything from turning it on, to the speed of the massager motor and if it’s not working or not turning then the massager will not work anymore.
I started by disassembling the massager gun by first removing the charging base to access the PCB board of the display.
You want to look for burn marks on the PCB or signs of short circuits, if you find signs of short circuits replacing those components can help you fix the problem.
Since everything seemed fine I tried connecting the board to the charging to see if the display turned on but to my surprise nothing came on. It was after experimenting for a while I realized that the display will only light up when connected to the battery directly.
If the display doesn’t turn on even after connecting it to the battery then the battery might be faulty and needs replacement to fix the issue.
Reason 3 – Motor Problem
Another reason that I suspected to be was the motor itself as I owned this massager for well over a year now and I used it very often too. To check this I had to disassemble the massager and closely inspect its motor unit.
The massager uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). While this sounds confusing you only need to understand that it controls the speed of the motor but if it’s not working properly it can stop the motor from working at all.
To test the motor I connected the motor to the battery and display for it to work, it wont work without connecting to these two components, if any of the two components are faulty the motor wont work.
Reason 4 – Battery Problem
At last when I couldn’t find any problems in the board or the motor I decided to look for problems in the battery itself as it is a very crucial component. Make sure to charge the massager using a 5V charging adapter and via USB-C only.
While I followed this process I decided to open up the massager to test the battery itself. The battery is located in the handle of the massager and after opening multiple screws and disconnecting the display board, it was neatly hidden.
I removed the battery and disconnected it from the board, then I removed its plastic cover to see what kind of battery was being used. The Sharper Image Massaging gun uses four 18650 batteries connected in series which provides a total of 14.8V from 3.7V battery each.
I started by checking the output voltage of the battery to see if it was enough, you want to see a voltage near to 14.8V but if your battery is providing far below this mark then your battery might be faulty and needs replacing to fix the issue.
Then I checked if the battery pack received power by checking the voltage across the charging pin, I connected the massager to the charger and measured the voltage from the charging pin.
It should be somewhere from 16V to 17V, if the voltage is 0V or far below 17V then the charging unit might be faulty and replacing it can fix the issue for you.
