Roomba i Series Charging: Light Meaning

Roomba i Series Charging: Light Meaning

Meaning of lights on your Roomba, can seem very unclear at the start. I passed a bit of time watching my Roomba while it passes through its various phases of starting, to figure out the real meaning of each of those lights.

When you first lay the Roomba on its charger or press the button CLEAN, it shows white pattern twisting clockwise. That shows that the machine is either in recovery mode or updating his program. During the system boots up, the lights move always in clockwise direction.

It normally lasts around 10 to 15 seconds.

Interpreting Roomba i Series Charging Lights

When the recovery sequence ends, the lights change to more slow white spin clockwise. Now the Roomba goes in his charging cycle, as marks that change. After the machine connects to the base and finds that it has energy, this becomes the first charging state.

I understood it clearly when I noticed the difference of pace between those two modes.

When the first charging link happens, the light passes to slow white pulse pattern. Rather than spinning, the round fades inward and outward softly. This is the pattern that you most commonly will sea, when the Roomba rests on his base between cleaning runs.

The rhythm stays same, whether the battery stands at 20% or 80%. The light simply keeps beating slowly, until the battery fills.

When the battery reaches full 100%, the light ring becomes solid white. Only stable white glow surrounds the button PURA, without beating or spinning. This way you know that the Roomba is fully charged and ready to clean.

As long the machine stands on his base with fully charged battery, the solid light stays shining.

Only a healthy battery will come to that solid white state. The battery must be replaced.

When the battery falls to dangerously low level, the light ring becomes solid red or becomes fully black without any glow. My Roomba went through that, when I left it work until it almost could not return to the base. Red light ring marks that the machine lacks energy to clean well.

Sometimes the battery so much drains that not even stays power to light the ring.

The machine must build minimal round before it reacts to the button PURA. During red light show, trying to start cleaning cycle does not help.
