You know that tiny panic moment when you put your electric toothbrush on charge and it refuses to charge? Well, that happened to me last week.

I tried charging my Oral-B Braun toothbrush like I always do, once a week, but to my surprise the brush showed no signs of charging. I tried to wiggle it around, making sure my charger was connected to it, but nothing happened.

I even tried checking if my charger was working or not but nothing worked for me. I knew something was wrong with my toothbrush and I decided to dig around the internet to find out what was the issue.

And speaking of the internet, I also posted a short video about this topic on YouTube and you can watch it below.

On my video, I checked the battery to make sure if it’s working fine. Then, I tested its wireless charging component using a multimeter.

2 Reasons Why Your Oral-B Braun Toothbrush Not Charging

It turns out there are two reasons as to why my Oral-B Braun was not charging and here is how to fix it.

Method 1 – Check The Battery for Replacement

1. If you own your toothbrush for a very long time just like me, the battery might be the sole problem of your Oral-B Braun not charging. Here is how I checked mine for a bad battery.

I opened the toothbrush by removing the bottom cap.

2. First I opened the toothbrush by removing the bottom cap. This is where the charger goes in while charging and can be opened by using a sharp pry tool, just apply gentle pressure and you will be inside.

3. Once I opened it, I started to look for the battery, and there it was just above the charging coil. Then I grabbed a multimeter, and using it in DC voltage mode I connected the red and black probes to the battery terminals to monitor the voltage on the multimeter.

The voltage of my battery came around 1.3V

4. The voltage of my battery came around 1.3V, meaning my battery was healthy, but if you see a voltage below that, you my friend need to replace it with a new battery.

Method 2 – Testing Wireless Charging Coil

1. While the battery of my Oral-B Braun was completely fine, I decided to check if the charging coil was working or not. In normal condition the toothbrush should blink green light on charge but if it’s not, then there is something wrong with the charging unit.

check if the charging coil was working or not

2. I Placed the Oral-B Braun back on the charger, and set my multimeter to DC voltage. Then I carefully touched the two solder points coming off the coil with the red and black probes.

3. My meter showed me around 0.0972 volts meaning that the coil was receiving power from the battery. If you see 0 V or a negative voltage, it means that the coil of your Oral-B Braun is dead.

if you see 0 Hz then the charging base is probably fried.

I also checked for frequency off the charger base by setting the multimeter to AC frequency mode and it showed me some readings, again if you see 0 Hz then the charging base is probably fried.
