There are two different colors of lights on the Milwaukee charger. These two lights shine in 4 different patterns in total. “What do each of those 4 patterns mean?”, a new user might wonder.
The little sticker on the charger that explains the meaning of Milwaukee battery charger lights might be confusing for some people, so today I wanted to share a brief explanation that’ll clear everything up!
The Meaning of Milwaukee Battery Charger Lights – All 4 Explained
- Red Light Staying Solid
When a charger has red lights and green lights, the red ones usually signal trouble. But, in the case of a Milwaukee battery charger’s solid red light, this one signals normal charging.
A solid red light could be alarming, especially if you have experience with other batteries. In case you ever see the light from the picture below on your Milwaukee charger though, don’t worry about it.
When the light stays red without any changes, just keep waiting. It’s charging as it’s supposed to, but isn’t done just yet.
- Green Light Staying Solid
A completely solid green light means it’s time to go ahead and take the battery out of your Milwaukee charger because it’s done charging. The battery is done taking in power, so you can remove it.
The light will stay this way for as long as the battery stays inside. It’ll turn off once users take the battery out; which should be done soon after this solid green light pops up to avoid overcharging.
This pattern and the first one I talked about before this are the only two that stay solid. They’re also the only lights that aren’t warnings for major issues, unlike the other two lights that I’ll talk about next.
- Red Light Blinking Repeatedly
A red light that blinks over and over is an indicator of overly high or low temperatures. It only shows up when the temperature on the battery is at dangerous levels.
I recommend immediately taking action if you ever notice this pattern. Take the battery out of your Milwaukee charger as soon as you see it flashing red repeatedly like in the image below. It might go bad otherwise.
Batteries don’t often get too cold. While it is possible, it’s super rare unless you live in a very cold environment or personally go out of your way to get the battery cold.
On the other hand, overheating is common in comparison. Batteries always heat up with use, and too much use at once leads to overheating. The way to deal with an overly cold or hot battery is to store it away.
- Red and Green Flashing Together
On a rare chance, you’ll see both red and green blink together after putting a battery on your Milwaukee charger. This is a sign from your charger that the battery is dying.
There are sensors on Milwaukee chargers that read the flow of power and how the battery accepts it. These sensors can tell the state of a battery, and flash like the photo under this if something’s wrong.
These lights go off whenever the charger can’t supply power to the battery. That means there’s a chance the battery isn’t dead and it’s a false alarm. But, that’s only in luckier cases.
If the battery does end up being dead/faulty, you’ll need a replacement soon. The charger won’t try to give power to a battery that it considers faulty. Instead, the red and green lights will blink.
The only way to get around it is by putting a new battery on the charger; preferably one that works and will charge without issues.
