Meanings of Greenworks 40v Battery Charger Light

I bought myself a Greenworks charger for all the power tools, from drill machines to lawn movers I use for my personal use. I went to my nearest hardware store and grabbed it right away.

As a first time user of the Greenworks charger I was surprised and confused by the different light codes that the charger threw at my face.

I couldn’t understand what the light codes meant and what was happening to my battery until after weeks of using it I automatically made sense of them. Here are the meanings of Greenworks 40V battery charger lights.

I also made a short video about this topic and you can watch it below.

A blinking green means the battery is charging and a solid green means it’s now fully charged. A solid red means a hot/cold delay while a blinking red indicates a bad battery.

Greenworks 40v Battery Charger Lights: What They Mean

Blinking Green – This charging indicator shows that the battery is being charged normally and the charging process has started.

I always look out for this light code as it means that my battery will be ready to be used again in a couple of hours while I enjoy a brief break with a cold drink in my hands.

If you own a Greenworks 40V 2.0Ah battery leave it charging for 60 minutes and if its a 40V 4.0Ah battery leave it for at least 2 hours to fully charge it.

Solid Green – If you see a solid green light on your charger, congratulations your battery is now fully charged to 100% and is safe to be used.

When I fully charge my Greenworks 40V battery it provides me with a runtime of 40 straight minutes which according to the work you are doing can span to 2 days of work.

Store the battery in a cool and dry place if you are not planning to use it after charging, this will not only keep the battery safe and extend its life.

Solid Red – The solid red light on electronics never really means anything nice and its the same case for the Greenworks charger.

solid red hot cold delay

When the charger shows a solid right light it means that the battery is showing a hot and cold delay error. This means that the battery temperature is either too hot or too cold for it to be charged by the Greenworks charger.

I was shown this code when I overused my battery on a hot day and tried to charge it.

Flashing Red – When I tried to charge my old greenworks battery on the charger it showed me a red flashing code. At first I was left confused but later I checked the manual and found out that the light code means bad news.

The flashing red light code means that the battery is dead and needs to be reset to fix the issue.

I also made a short video in which I showed how I solved this issue and you can watch it below.

On the video, I get another working Greenworks 40V battery. I identify their positive and negative terminals. I use a wire to connect the positive to positive terminals of the two batteries. I let them stay connected for around 15 seconds then disconnect them.
