Meaning of RIDGID Battery Charger Indicator Lights

Unlike a lot of other chargers I’ve talked about, RIDGID ones are different. They actually have a different positioned indicator for every light, and info about it.

Still, if you want more details about the meaning of these different RIDGID battery charger indicator lights and what to do when they show up, I’ll talk about each one in this guide.

Meaning of RIDGID Battery Charger Indicator Lights

  • RIDGID Charger Indicator Blinking Green

There are a total of three indicators on RIDGID chargers. I’ll start with the one on top, which will usually blink green whenever you plug a battery inside these chargers.

This green flashing indicator is a sign that your RIDGID battery is charging as it’s meant to. You can take a look at the photo below to see what it’s like.

A charging indicator doesn’t have much more special about it than that. It’s just there to let you know charging is ongoing, and you have nothing to worry about for now.

  • RIDGID Charger Indicator Displaying Solid Green

There are three indicators on these chargers, like I already mentioned. But, something unique about the top indicator is that it’s the only one with two possible patterns.

The other possible pattern on it is solid green, which lets users know their battery has finished charging up. It replaces the blinking green light once the battery is at 100%.

Unlike the blinking green light that eventually changes to this light, the solid green one won’t change. It’ll stay that way until the battery gets taken off the charger.

  • RIDGID Charger Indicator Blinking Orange

The second indicator on the RIDGID charger only has one pattern: a repeatedly flashing orange. Along with that, it has the words “Temp. Delay” written next to it.

In other words, the indicator that blinks orange lets users know when their RIDGID battery is overheating or overcooling. This is what the blinking orange light is like:

Temperature delay happens when a battery is either too hot or cold to charge. Thermistors on these chargers spot the drastic temperature change and stop flow of power.

Charging batteries when their temperature is too high or low can cause serious issues with the cells inside. That’s why there are failsafes like this one to prevent harm.

Immediately take the RIDGID battery off its charger when you see the orange light. Set it aside for some hours (6-8 at the least, just to be safe) so it can get back to a good temperature.

I suggest leaving it in your room and not trying to charge it till the next day, just to be safe. Then, the next morning, plug it into the charger and the light should be gone.

There aren’t any shortcuts to dealing with temperature delay, nor would I ever recommend taking any. Just wait it out and your battery will be fine on its own after a while.

  • RIDGID Charger Indicator Displaying Solid Red

The third and last indicator will only display a solid red light when it’s on. This indicator just has the words “Error” written right next to it, which isn’t exactly specific.

For those who don’t know, the solid red light from the image below is for bad batteries. The RIDGID charger can’t supply power to that battery, hence why it says “Error” on it.

Bad batteries won’t be able to accept charge, and this light is meant to warn users about them. If you see it, it’s likely your battery’s health is low, or that it’s dead entirely.

You could try performing a reset on your RIDGID battery as demo in the video above if it’s not charging, or buy a replacement battery instead. Either one will be necessary to get rid of the solid red error light.
