iHealth Thermometer Not Accurate Not Reading Temperature: 4 Ways to Fix It

I remember feeling off one morning due to the change in the weather in my city, so I grabbed my iHealth thermometer to check if I had a fever or not. It is a hand held thermometer and does not require any physical contact with the body or an object but no matter how hard I try the thermometer refuses to give me reading.

At first I thought the thermometer had run out of battery but even after replacing the battery the readings showed that i was completely fine and with the next reading it showed weirdly low temperatures.

Turns out there were a few different reasons as to why my iHealth thermometer was not giving the right reading, and if you are also having trouble with your iHealth thermometer not being accurate or not reading temperature at all, let me share some solutions with you.

I’ve also made a short video about this topic which I’m sure can help you more to understand and fix this issue. You can watch this video below.

On the video, I discussed some of the possible causes of this problem like the measurement distance, temperature not within the range, battery level, and the lens being dirty.

4 Reasons Why an iHealth Thermometer Isn’t Giving an Accurate or Not Reading Temperature

Reason 1 – Measurement Distance is Too Far

1. If your iHealth doesn’t provide accurate readings or does not provide temperature at all you might be using it in the wrong way. The iHealth thermometer is made to be held at a minimum reading distance of 1 inch or 2.5 cm away from the object or the forehead while checking for fever.

hold the iHealth thermometer at least 2.5 cm away from the object or body.

2. Try reading the temperature again but this time hold the iHealth thermometer at least 2.5 cm away from the object or body. Holding it too far or too close can affect the accuracy of the thermometer.

Reason 2 – Temperature Exceeds the Measurement Range

1. If the temperature of the object is above 49.9 C the iHealth thermometer might not provide any reading at all or give errors while reading. Make sure to measure the objects below the measuring capacity of the iHealth thermometer.

Temperature Exceeds the Measurement Range

2. The iHealth thermometer can read the max temperature of 49.9 C or 109.4 F and a low temperature of 32 C or 89.6 F. Measuring temperatures above or below the max and minimum reading of an iHealth thermometer will result in errors or no readings at all.

Reason 3 – Low Battery Levels

1. If your iHealth thermometer is not turning on or showing no signs on display it might be due to dead batteries. The iHealth thermometer uses two AAA batteries to power itself and work properly, low battery levels can affect its readings.

replace the batteries in your iHealth thermometer

2. To replace the batteries in your iHealth thermometer, remove the back cover of the thermometer and remove the old batteries. After the old batteries are removed replace it with two new AAA batteries.

Your iHealth thermometer should now start again and provide accurate readings once again.

I also have a short video about how you can change the batteries on your iHealth thermometer. You can watch it below.

You just have to remove the back battery cover and then replace the old batteries with 2 pieces of AAA batteries.

Reason 4 – Dirty Sensor/Lens

1. The iHealth thermometer uses an infrared (IR) sensor to detect body temperatures and provide accurate reading but after prolonged use the lens can be covered in dust which might affect its readings.

2. To fix this take a cotton swab soaked with 70% alcohol cleaner, you can also use isopropyl alcohol which works well as a cleaning agent. Clean the lens area along with the metal conduit with the cotton swab and remove all the dirt and debris that might be stuck.

Clean the lens area

3. This will ensure a proper reading by your iHealth thermometer and your reading problems should not be resolved.

At the end of the day I realised it was these small mistakes which can throw the readings of the iHealth thermometer way off. After learning the correct steps to use the iHealth thermometer properly I never had any difficulties reading temperature.

If you also find yourself stuck in a similar situation as me just follow the steps above to make sure your iHealth thermometer provides accurate readings and works like it did on day one.
