Indeed, there are times I only use half a tube of silicone caulk in my home projects and store them away.
Unfortunately, when I plan to reuse them, most of them dried out and ended up in the trash. What a waste!
To prevent further material wastage in future, I have come up with five DIY tips on how to seal a caulking tube for reuse.
How To Seal A Caulking Tube For Reuse (5 DIY Tips)

- Seal the tip with a hook screw.
- Wrap the tip with a small balloon.
- Recycle plastic bottle head and cap for silicone tube storage.
- Cover the tip with hot glue.
- Close the tip with duct tape.
- Seal the tip with a hook screw.
Firstly, use a hook screw and manually screw into the tip of the silicone tube nozzle.
Moreover, the hook screw will prevent the silicone from direct exposure to air.
Reuse tip: Unscrew hook screw from the nozzle tip. The hole created from the hook screw allows the silicone to flow out the tube smoothly.
- Wrap the tip with a small balloon.
Secondly, wrap the silicone nozzle tip with a small balloon.
Then, gently squeeze out a small amount of silicone into the balloon.
Reuse tip: Break and remove the dried out silicone inside the balloon and reuse the silicone caulking tube normally.
- Recycle plastic bottle head and cap for silicone tube storage.
Thirdly, cut the upper half of a plastic bottle. Then, fuse it onto the silicone tube with a heat gun.

Reuse tip: Unscrew the bottle cap and screw in the tube nozzle tip through the opening and use normally.
- Cover the tip with hot glue.
Fourthly, use a hot glue gun and melt glue over the tip of the silicone tube nozzle.
This is my personal favourite method of sealing tubes because of its air-tight quality.
Reuse tip: Before reusing, peel off the glue from the caulking tube nozzle tip first.
- Close the tip with duct tape.
On the other hand, this is probably the easiest method in my list.
Lastly, cut out 3 inches of duct tape. Then, fold it in half with the silicone nozzle tip wrapped in the middle.
Make sure that you seal the tape edges tightly so air may not enter.
Reuse tip: Remove duct tape from nozzle tip.
Therefore, these are my proven easy DIY methods on how to seal a caulking tube for reuse.
