Before getting to work with your tools, you pull out the battery pack so it can’t be accidentally started. Then, you push the little indicator button on its side to get an instant read on how much power remains inside. That tell you whether you’re good for another hour’s worth of work or time to fire up a charging session now.

The LED bars light up to show current state. All four or just one will light sometimes. This provide a quick visual indicator and takes the guessing out of when to switch batteries. It’s very simple but direct feedback from the unit on its own status. You know right where you are at so you won’t experience frustrating power outages in the middle of a job.
Understanding Charger Indicator Lights

To avoid accidental starts, you first remove the battery pack from the tool before sliding it onto the special charger base. It clicks in hard, meaning there’s absolutely no play between the battery and the charger. That means excellent electrical contact right from the beginning. Any sort of loose fit will either prevent a charge altogether or result in a very poor one. You always want to make sure it’s seated correcty each time with zero problems.

Immediately upon receiving power, the charger illuminates to indicate it’s at work. The unit’s front panel light will briefly switch from off to flashing green. It will continue to flash in that manner while it’s charging your battery. You won’t have to guess whether it is doing its job because the light stay steady and even throughout the charge cycle.

It varies greatly depending off your capacity pack. If you’re going with a 4.0 Ah battery, you can expects to see it fully charged within two hours or so. That’s not bad at all if you’re doing some weekend work around the house. The bigger 5.0 Ah will take just over an hour and a half to reach full charge.

When I use the fast charge adapter, that all goes out the window. It’s basically halving the normal charge times. On a busy day, you reach for the quicker one and plug away. You’ll notice the speed up if you’re on a deadline, it helps make your work flow a lot more seamless and un-interrupted.
As the charging cycle completes, you’ll notice a change in light behavior. Instead of blinking green, the light becomes a solid steady glow, indicating it’s done and ready to roll. It’s a clear visual cue: don’t wait any longer; check and then remove your pack from the station.

Other indicator combinations will appear as you test the many different situations. It’s good to know what they mean so that when you’re using it and something is going wrong you can diagnose it faster. It helps take a mysterious blinking light and turn it into useful information.

A steady red light indicate temperature issues. If the battery being charged are too hot or too cold for safe charging, the unit shuts down. Essentially, the system doesn’t want to expose the cells to thermal stress by continuing with charging. This could occur when taking batteries out of a cold garage and bringing them into warmer environments indoors.

When it cools back down into an acceptable range, the battery shows its status via the solid red light and stays like that until the battery has adjusted to the new room temperature. The safety measure here are to protect the internal lithium cells from harm.

In this particular scenario, you just need to be patient and let the battery cool off until it matches the room temp before forcing charging.

Note: Force-charging outside of optimum thermal limits can greatly reduce your battery’s lifespan.
The other indicator, however, the one flashing a red light, that’s something else altogether. That can mean your battery has some sort of issue. It frequently means that its own internal parts requires resetting before everything works right again. You thought it was busted hardware and saw this message flashing, not understanding what it meant. But more often than not, it’s just a software hiccup. It is not a permanent issue.

Fortunately, this type of communication issue between the charger and pack can usually be fixed by resetting the unit. A simple reset will get the system up and running again. Charging begins as normal. Everything function as it should, with the lights working normally. It’s quick and easy and saves you from having to waste a perfectly good battery on a false error signal. You could of avoided it if you checked sooner.
