Find the right size of the golf cart belt for your golf truck is not like this easy as one could believe. First you must open the hood and reach the belt itself. Using the tape to work well for that task, you will wind it around the handle of the drive belt to get the measure.
But here the problem: you need to remove the drive belt of the truck before measure it correctly. That maybe requires to loosen some pulleys or turn some parts only to reach the belt. When it is done, average measuring tapes or tools will give you a precise reading about the length.
Find the Right Golf Cart Belt Size
Here another way, that means to use a piece of string. You will lay the string like this, that it sits in the main handle and in the second. Like this you copy, as the belt naturally would sit on those handles.
The secret is leave a bit of slack or play here. When you have it placed well, simply measure the string and get your number.
Here where things start getting tricky, different models of golf truck need different sizes of golf cart belt. For instance, EZGO trucks built between 1976 and 1987 have a golf cart belt that is about 1-3/16 inches wide with outer diameter of 45 inches. Jump to the models of 1988 until 1991 of EZGO, and you find the same width, but they are shorter, at 41 inches.
The EZGO ST 480 is a bit different… It needs around 1-1/8 inches wide and 47-3/4 inches long, plus or minus. For owners of Yamaha, the models Drive2 and G2 through G22 with gas engine of 1985 until 2006 need a belt of 39 3/4 inches long, with outer diameter around 1-3/16 inches and inner diameter about 1 inch.
The width of the golf cart belt is not something that you should ignore. The RXV drive belt works with width around 1-3/16 inches. Using something around 15/16 inches wood be a mistake, it would be too narrow so that the handle keeps it well.
Here something weird, what can confuse you. The same part number can appear in different lengths, depending on where you buy it. I saw one belt under one number listed at 35 3/4 inches, while another from other supplier measured 34 1/2 inches.
Such differences can throw off your whole install.
When the golf cart belt is worn, the tension becomes important. Getting it right takes some trial and error. You want that it be tight, but not so strained that it lacks give.
Too much tension wears the belt more quickly. Finding the right spot helps to avoid slipping, improve the power and extend the life of the belt. Sometimes you will tighten it and in the end will have a belt 1 1/2 inches longer, to turn it in place.
Still not sure about the size? Most suppliers can find the right golf cart belt for you, if you give them the details of your truck. Swapping the golf cart belt on something like Club Car Precedent is not too hard.
You will need a 14 mm wrench, 13 mm wrench, 14 mm shallow socket with ratchet and either a long screwdriver or pry bar to finishthe task. Only set the parking brake before start.
