Knowing how to change a DeWalt impact wrench’s anvil is a must for anyone with the tool.
It’s one of the most important components, and you need to know what to do if the tool not impacting, jammed, etc.
That’s why I made a little step-by-step guide to help users with it.
Here’s my video demo how to change the anvil on the DeWalt impact wrench.
Change Anvil on DeWalt Impact Wrench
- Remove The Socket From Anvil
First of all, inspect the back of your impact wrench and take out the socket I’m holding in this picture.
Just twist it off and you can move on to the next step. Ironically, you might need to use a wrench for this.
- Remove Screws On The Anvil Cover
Do you see the screws I’ve highlighted below? Each of these hold the cover that protects the anvil. Get these off so you can replace the anvil. I recommend using a screwdriver for this, obviously.
Make sure you keep the screws close and don’t lose any of them.
You’ll need to reattach them later, and finding replacements of the perfect size if you lose any can be a big pain.
- Remove Anvil Cover
Once you have the screws off, use your hands to take the cover off like I did here. Be careful not to use too much force, though. The cover might start cracking if you treat it too rough.
After getting it off, just set it aside with the screws from earlier.
- Take Out Old Anvil
Now to finally get started, get the anvil off the device like I did here. You just need to move it with your hands since it isn’t actually bolted down or anything. Just move it off of its position.
- Inspect Anvil Platform
Something I always do when replacing my anvil on the impact wrench is to check the platform for any debris or dirt. I really recommend that you do the same too.
Anvils need to be perfectly placed and given enough space to turn freely.
Any dirt or debris might cause problems with that. So, I want you to give it a nice cleaning after taking off your old anvil.
Plus, consider applying some grease around the platform like I did below. The grease helps keep the interior lubricated and ensures smooth operation. I always do this and find it really helpful.
I would advice not to over lubricate the anvil as it might cause grease leaking issue on the impact wrench.
- Replace With A New Anvil and Close The Cover
Finally, just put the new anvil on its platform and make sure its in perfect position.
Once you do that, finish the job by putting the casing back on the anvil and using the screws from earlier to seal it shut.
With the cover on and the new anvil in place, the job is done! Your DeWalt impact wrench has a new anvil now, and you know how to replace it in the future should you need to.
It’s not a hard job at all, and I’m sure it’ll be even easier than it already is if you follow my steps!
