Did you notice something wrong with your Bosch C7 Car Charger and need a hand troubleshooting it? Well, you came to the right place. I have one of these chargers myself and know how to patch them up.
So, whether it’s a small issue or something as big as the charger not working on your battery altogether, I’ve got you covered. Just follow my list of solutions and you’ll find the answer to your worries.
Troubleshooting 3 Bosch C7 Car Charger Problems
- Overheating
Overheating is a really common issue with most car batteries and their chargers. That’s because they operate at high power for long periods.
I think people who live in hotter areas are definitely familiar with this. Warmer climates lead to a lot more overheating than usual because there’s external temperature acting on top of the internal one.
Once a charger or the battery attached to it begins to overheat, there isn’t any workaround for it. You just have to stop using them for a bit. My tip for situations like these is in the photo below.
The best thing to do is to store them in a colder environment. It’s safe to use them again after they cool down in a few hours.
But, you can usually avoid these problems by just being careful about it. For one, you should make sure the room you keep the Bosch C7 Car Charger in is away from sunlight or too much heat in any form.
Plus, when charging for longer periods of time, give the charger a break now and then. Try not to use it for more than a few hours at a time, as that’s a surefire way to overheat the device.
- Flashing Blue Light
A blue light on Bosch C7 Car Chargers means that the device is in standby mode, and ready to use. But, what does it mean when that blue light is flashing?
It’s something I struggled with a lot some time ago, and I didn’t find much help for it online. So, in case you run into an issue like this, I want you to be prepared unlike me.
After a lot of snooping around the internet and experimenting with the charger to no avail, I eventually discovered the reason. Apparently, the blue light was flashing on my charger because of a blown fuse.
You can see the fuse I’m talking about below. It’s responsible for stopping the charger or your car battery from short-circuiting. It protects them by blowing when the charge reaches dangerous levels.
Look for this fuse on your Bosch C7 Car Battery Charger. It will be behind a small rectangle covering. Open the cover to see if the fuse looks shattered.
In case it does, you’ll need a new one. These charger models use 10-ampere fuses, so you’ll need to order those online. They’re not too pricey at all, so don’t worry about a big expense.
I have made a video about the different meanings of the lights on your Bosch C7 Car Battery charger. You can watch it below.
After you’ve plugged in the positive and negative terminals to the battery it will show a steady blue light as an indicator that it is about to ready to charge.
Then, after a while it will either show two rounds of blue light which means it’s charging normally or just a single round blue lights which means it’s not charging.
If it shows a red light then it means the battery is either damaged or too weak.
- Not Working On Battery
Now for the biggest and most common problem; a Bosch C7 Car charger not working on your battery.
It’s really hard to determine the exact reason why this could be happening with your charger since there are so many possibilities. For starters, it could be either of the two problems I discussed earlier.
It could be something else entirely too. This includes using the incorrect voltage setting on your charger, or not having the right mode enabled.
New users make mistakes like these often, so make sure you aren’t doing the same thing. Always pick the right setting and voltage depending on the specific battery you’re currently charging.
Trying to use anything else will just stop the charger from working with the battery you attach to it. But, it’s something you can easily fix.
If you aren’t sure about which mode to use, read the device’s manual for more information about each one. Then, just pick the one that matches your needs best!
In more serious cases, it could be something like faulty wiring inside the charger. It might have damage, or the wiring inside has a problem with it. These things can stop the charger from functioning.
Similarly, the battery you’re trying to charge might have problems too. Batteries can die after years of use, so you might be trying to use a dysfunctional battery.
You can usually tell whether or not this is the case by trying a different battery with the same specifications. If the different battery charges but yours doesn’t, that means your current one is faulty/dead.
In these situations, repairs and troubleshooting usually aren’t options. Your best bet is to end up replacing the charger or the battery altogether, depending on which of the two is faulty
