In GD&T, the bonus tolerance is a help to GD&T tolerance. It extends the allowance based on certain things, so you use the term “bonus”. For mechanical designers it has big value.

What Is Bonus Tolerance in GD&T

At production in MMC limit the feature must be entirely straight. Here any bend in place or form is allowed, otherwise the tolerance will be broke. When a hole does bigger than MMC, you win bonus tolerance for the place during as you move toward the minimal material condition (LMC) of the size.
That tolerance expand the zone for place during the part gets closer to LMC.
The bonus tolerance do not concern the hole diameter. It stays unchanged. The bonus comes from the real place being at MMC.
For instance, if the hole grows in size, you can add that same amount to tolerance. If hole surpasses MMC in 0,002, you receives 0,002 bonus tolerance what gives entirely 0,003. That bonus reduces the number of bad parts by means of expansion of the tolerance zone.
During massive production the hole size and place adjusts based on things as machine backlash and tool usage.
Practical rating for place or perpendicularity can employ. Each difference between real size of feature and maximum material condition becomes bonus tolerance during usage of practical rating. It helps, because control you can by means of rating, that simulates the flange and part in worst case.
