As a father of a child who just loves his RC cars I am faced with regular charging of these AA batteries almost every other day.
As a great father and the supporter of what my child loves, I decided to test two AA batteries to see which one lasts the longest and which can save me the hassle of putting them in the battery charger almost every other day.
The batteries I got were the PowerOwl and AmazonBasics battery both of which were rechargeable. Here are the results of the test I conducted.
But before you continue reading this article, you could also first watch the short video I made about this topic. You can watch it below.
On my video, I demonstrated how I tested both batteries on the same model of fan for the battery runtime. Here are the results: Amazon Basics: 9 hours 25 minutes and Powerowl: 12 hours 12 minutes.
AmazonBasics vs Powerowl: Which Rechargeable Battery is Better?
The PowerOwl AA rechargeable battery is rated at 2800 mAh by the company and claims to have a life cycle of up to 1200 charges, it can retain its 70% power up to 2 years and is priced at a fair price but more expensive than what could be found in the market.

The expensive price was the reason why I got the AmazonBasics AA batteries, not only are they cheaper but have a decent power rating of 2000 mAh. It is rated for up to 1000 charges and can maintain 80% of its power after 2 years of use.

It is priced very cheaper than the PowerOwl but provides less backup which brings us to our original question. Is the PowerOwl worth the price? Only one way to find out.
Now that things were clear and both the batteries seemed to be healthy, I charged both the pairs of batteries to 100%. After they were fully charged I could finally start my experiment.
I placed a pair of PowerOwl batteries in one hand held fan and the AmazonBasics in the other hand held fan to let them run overnight to see which one will keep the fan running, and here are the results.
- The AmazonBasics powered through for 9 hours and 25 minutes before calling it quits and running out of power.
- The PowerOwl, on the other hand went on to run for almost 12 hours and 12 minutes before losing all its power.
So the answer is quite clear, yes the PowerOwl battery is worth the higher price that is paid for it. It lasted almost 3 hours more than the AmazonBasics battery and now I know which one will help my son’s RC car to last long and provide me with an extra day or two before I need to charge it up again.
