If you’ve been using your Waterpik flosser for a long time already, you might encounter some issues with it like it may not be able to pump water in some instances. This article talks about how you can fix this problem by yourself.
But before you continue reading this article you may want to watch first the short video I’ve about this topic. You can watch it below.
On my video I first checked if the battery of my Waterpik flosser is still working fine. Then I proceeded to check if there was any clogged tube on it. Lastly, I checked its pump and saw the problem was there.
3 Reasons Why Waterpik Flosser Not Pumping Water
1. Charge or Replace the Battery
My very first doubt was that there might be an issue with the battery as I owned the Waterpik flosser for a very long time now.
I owned a codeless flosser so it meant that it worked on an 3.7V internal battery which needed to be charged fully using an 5V and 1A charging adapter. Make sure to use a suitable adapter to charge your flosser.
If it is still not charging, the battery might be the issue itself and removing it took me a lot of time but it is possible by following the right steps.
I started by removing the water tank, and then wrapped the bottom of the flosser with a cloth and tried knocking out the bottom cover with a hammer. Be careful with it and make sure to hit it gently, if it doesn’t work use a prying tool to remove the bottom to access the internals.
Once inside the flosser, I disconnected the battery and tested its voltage using a multimeter, it came around 3.7V which meant that my battery was healthy, if the voltage of your battery is far below 3.7V then your battery might be dead and replacing it can fix your issue.
Then I tried plugging in the charger and tested the voltage on the contact point where the battery is connected. It should measure around 4.2V which means that the charging process is working correctly.
But if everything is normal and the battery is not charging then the battery might be the issue and replacing it with a similar battery can fix the issue for you.
2. Make Sure No Clog
Another reason that your Waterpik flosser might not be working might be due to a clogged tube that is in the water tank.
If your white water pipe is clogged with dirt or some other debris the flosser will not be able to pick up water from the tank and the machine will run dry. Take apart the water tank and check for any clogs or dirt in your flosser’s pipe.
Clean it using clean water and let it dry before reattaching it to the flosser.
3. Pump Failure
After not being able to find any fault I decided to check the pump itself, a failed pump can also cause the Waterpik flosser to not work.
So I disassembled the upper unit to take a look at the pump and the diaphragm and there was the problem right in front of my eyes. The pump cover was cracked in my Waterpikk flosser which was why it was not working.
If your diaphragm or pump cover is also damaged, replacing it can fix the issue for you but it can be hard to source.
