Energizer vs Duracell Battery: AA Battery Comparison

Charging AA batteries can be a really awful task, they don’t only run out of battery very quickly but also take a lot of time to charge, but sadly some of my power tools only run on these batteries and I had no other option but to find the best one out of them.

I decided to test my two most used AA batteries that are the Energizer and the Duracell AA rechargeable battery to see which can last the longest and which one is worth the price I pay for it.

So I charged them fully and put them head to head against each other in a real life test to see which AA battery is the best.

I also made a short video about this topic and you can watch it below first before you continue reading this article.

On my video, I tested both batteries by letting each of them run a hand held fan. The fan which ran on the Energizer batteries lasted more than 9 hours while the one with the Duracell batteries only lasted more than 7 hours.

Energizer vs Duracell Battery: Which Is the Best?

First I started off by checking the rated capacity of both the batteries. I used my trusty old friend the Powerex C9000 Pro Analyzer which I used to check the internal capacity of both the pairs of AA batteries are what they promised as.

The Energizer AA battery has a rated capacity of 2000mAh and while analyzing the internal capacity with my tester the results were quite good.

Both the pairs of Energizer batteries gave me 1982mAh and 2000mAh of internal capacity and the Duracell which has an internal capacity of 1500mAh outputted 1276 mAh and 1268 mAh.

Now that I knew that both the batteries were healthy and held power near to their internal capacity it was time to start the real test. I started by charging both the pairs of batteries to 100%.

After they were fully charged I placed both the pairs in a hand held fan I bought online. These fans would help me see how long these batteries would last by using its power.

I let them run overnight and monitored their run time using a camera and the results were finally here.

  • The standard Energizer powered through for 9 hours and 28 minutes before running out of juice and the fan stopped working.
  • The Duracell, on the other hand, went on to run for almost 7 hours and 04 minutes. Less than 2 hour compared to the Energizer battery but expected as it only held 1500 mAh.

results of the test

The winner for this experiment turned out to be the Energizer battery thanks to its extended capacity which helped it last more than 2 hours against the Duracell battery.

Duracell also provided good results compared to its capacity but if you want a battery that can last you long then the Energizer is the clear winner.
