Craftsman v12 v20 Battery Charger Indicator Meaning

A friend of mine recommended the Craftsman battery charger for my power tools. What is so special about this charger is that it can easily charge both of my 12V and my 20V batteries. Before this I had to use different chargers to charge my batteries but the Craftsman charger made it all simple.

One thing that I was left confused with was its light indicators, when I used it for the very first time I thought the charger developed its own personality and I had no idea what it was trying to communicate, until I went on the internet and found a helpful video explaining to me what all the light codes meant.

Before you continue reading this article, you could first watch the short video I’ve made about this topic. You can watch it below.

A blinking green means the battery is charging. This will turn into a solid green when the battery becomes fully charged. A solid red and blinking green means a hot and cold delay and if there’s no light this indicates a problematic battery.

Craftsman v12 v20 Battery Charger Indicator Lights: What They Mean

Here are all light codes and their meanings of Craftsman battery charger.

Blinking Green – Charging

The blinking green charging indicator on the Craftsman battery chargers means that the battery is being charged normally. Usually when I see this light I leave my battery alone to be charged for at least 1 hour.

blinking green means the battery is charging.

As long as you see a green flashing light, do not worry and wait for it to charge completely.

Solid Green – Fully Charged

The solid green light is my favourite one ever, this means that my battery is fully charged and it’s ready to get to work again. When the Craftsman battery charger gives you a solid green light, just remove the battery from the charging slot and use it like it never ran out of juice.

Make sure to keep it in a cool and dry place if you are not planning to use it immediately. This increases the battery health of my battery and gives it that extra life.

Solid Red and Blinking Green – Hot and Cold Delay

If you are seeing a disco light theme being projected by the Craftsman battery charger, then sorry my friend I may have bad news for you. The solid red and flashing green light indicates a hot and cold delay.

Solid Red and Blinking Green - Hot and Cold Delay

This means that the battery is either too hot or too cold to be charged normally. This is a safety feature in the battery that prevents it from charging when the internal temperature of the battery is not right.

I also have a short video about this topic and you can watch it below.

If it’s experiencing a hot delay, remove the battery and place it in a shaded area to cool naturally. If it’s a cold delay, warm up the battery by bringing it into a heated indoor area before charging.

No Light – Bad Battery or Needs Restart

The no light coming out of the Craftsman battery is not a light code but still says a lot of words. When you plug in your battery in the craftsman charger and see no lights this usually means that the battery is dead or needs to be restarted.

No Light - Bad Battery or Needs Restart

This usually happens to me when my battery’s internal voltage drops below a certain threshold leaving it non recognizable by the charger.

I also have a video about this topic and you can watch it below.

On my video, I demonstrated how I reset my Craftsman 20V battery in three different ways: by using another healthy Craftsman 20v battery, by using a healthy similar battery from another brand, and by using a DC power supply.
