I was right in the middle of an important DIY shelf project when my Hart drill bit decided to betray me. I was trying to drill holes in the stud of a wall to mount my TV up but my drill decided to stop me.
I tried everything from putting the drill in reverse to using all the force I could gather to loosen the drill from the chuck but nothing worked.
After almost giving up I found a helpful video on YouTube which helped me remove the stuck bit from my Hart drill chuck and here are three methods how you can do it too.
And speaking of YouTube videos, I also made my own short YouTube video in which I showed how to fix this problem. You can watch it below.
In my video, I demonstrated the 3 different ways to fix this problem: by using a water hose, a locking plier, or a big plier.
3 Ways to Fix Hart Drill Bit Stuck in Chuck
Method 1: Use a Water Hose Sleeve & Reverse Drill
1. I don’t know if i should call myself a genius for this or not but this was a brilliant idea. I removed the drill bit stuck in my Hart drill using nothing but an old water hose.
I started by taping the chuck to prevent it from any damages or scratches during the process.
2. Then I wrapped the chuck around tightly with the water hose and held it firmly in place. You can use an old piece of water hose or cut a piece of hose just make sure you hold it tightly in the place you don’t want to hurt yourself.
3. After making sure everything was right and the hose held tightly to the chuck, I reversed my Hart drill and the drill bit came right off.
Method 2: Try Locking Plier If Water Hose Doesn’t Work
1. If the hose trick seems to be not working right for you don’t worry here is something else that you can also do. To do this trick I started by grabbing locking pliers and clamped it tightly on the chuck of the drill.
Don’t forget to tape a protective layer otherwise you will end up damaging your drill.
2. Then I locked the pliers in place and held on them tightly while reversing my Hart drill. The drill bit flew out of the check and once again I was free to use the drill again to continue my work.
Method 3: Big Pliers
1. I learned this method when I couldn’t find any special tools around me and the only thing I had was a big plier. So I made the most out of it by locking the plier around the chuck and putting the drill in reverse mode.
Again, don’t forget to tape the chuck to protect it from damages especially if your Hart drill is new.
2. I held the pliers firmly and turned the drill on, the drill bit came right off the chuck and the drill was once again free to be used again like I wanted to.
