  1. Battery Issue (Cordless model)

For anyone that has a wireless DeWalt impact wrench like I do, the most common reason for no power on the device is a battery problem.

To rule out the obvious, I suggest you make sure the battery isn’t running low or empty.

At least one of the lights on this indicator should be green when you turn the tool on.

Plus, you need to make sure you’re using the correct-voltage battery for your specific model.

My model works on a 20v DeWalt battery as image below, but yours could be different.

If you suspect your DeWalt battery is unhealthy, I would suggest you to follow the steps in the video below to check the output voltage of your battery.

Besides, if the battery is dead or not holding charge anymore, watch the video below on how you could possibly “Revive it

One last thing I want you to take care of when it comes to the battery is its connection with the impact wrench.

The pins I’ve highlighted below could be damaged or loose.

Take the cover off of your tool and see if everything is in order and tight or not.

You’ll be able to tell if there’s notable damage to the contacts.

  1. Trigger Switch Issue

The trigger switch is responsible for letting the impact wrench know it needs to be on or off.

I don’t need to tell you why it can be problematic if there are issues with it.

One thing that’s happened even to me is debris getting near the trigger, and stopping it from pressing all the way.

Alternatively, it could be a wiring issue around the trigger that doesn’t let the device register if it’s being pressed or not.

If you take the cover off, you’ll be able to get rid of any dirt and debris.

Plus, if there’s any notable damage or loose connections near the trigger, you’ll be able to see and deal with those as well.

  1. Motor Damage

The motor is what generates enough force in your impact wrench to work.

If it’s damaged, it won’t be able to generate any torque, nor output any rotational power.

A tip I have for those in this situation is to turn the LED light on their DeWalt impact wrench.

If it turns on, that likely means it is a sole motor issue because the light is actually receiving power normally.

If the impact wrench light isn’t turning on and you do in fact might a bigger problem, as whole impact wrench components are not receiving power.

  1. Electronic Board Or Wire Connections Problem

Okay, this next solution is pretty tricky.

That’s because it involves checking the status of every major component on the impact wrench.

I’ve highlighted every single one of them in this image, so it’s easier for you to know which one is where.

Based on this image, I want you to check all the components and see if there’s notable problems around them.

Whether it’s something as small as a burnt, loose, or severed wire, or something big like a burnt electrical board, check for every detail.

You’ll be able to pinpoint whether or not a problem lies with some specific component or if it’s just a general thing by doing this.

  1. Jamming Inside

The gear that makes your motor work could be jammed.

If this doesn’t spin properly, it might give you false impression that the tool has no power.

In fact, the impact wrench might be receiving power but jammed inside.

One symptom of this issue is that the impact wrench won’t spin, but it get hot and producing low sound at the same time.

You can easily check whether or not this is the case by checking the area I’ve highlighted in the image.

If the motor makes noise but the gear marked inside the place below doesn’t move, that’s where your issue is.

You might need to disassemble the impact wrench motor, clean around the gear and make sure all gears are in good shape.
