Personally, the light on my DeWalt impact wrench is one of the best things about it because of how much it helps in dark or closed off spaces.
I find it so annoying when it’s not working.
If your DeWalt impact wrench experiencing some common problems like LED issue, there are a few things that always help me.
DeWalt Impact Wrench Light Not Working
- Faulty Bulb or LEDs
The most obvious suggestion I have, which is also the most likely one, is that the LED inside the device is faulty.
These tend to blow out or get damaged after years of usage, just like the DeWalt Charger and Battery indicator problem, so yours could have done the same.
Check and smell for any damage around the LED light.
You’ll be able to tell if it burnt out and shattered, and sniffing around for any burnt smell will help you know if it overheated or not.
These are always some of the first things I check.
I also take the covers off the device and closely inspect the area around the LED.
That way you can easily confirm if there’s something wrong with the light inside.
- Wiring Connection Issue
You’re going to have to take the covers off your DeWalt impact wrench for my next solution too.
That’s because a wiring issue is another thing I’ve experienced when it comes to the light not working on these devices.
One symptom of faulty wiring might on impact wrench is the the light to stay on no matter how long you leave it.
Take a look at this electronic board as shown in the image below.
It’s called a connector, and it’s responsible for attaching wires to the light so it can get the power it needs.
Any wires loose or disconnected around this component will mean that the light stops working.
Make sure that all the wires on it and around it are secured.
My suggestion is to disconnect and reconnect it back, sometimes this simple trick make it works again.
After doing that, I recommend making sure that this isn’t a problem by using a multimeter on the above connector to see if it’s drawing power or not.

- Faulty Circuit Board
The connector isn’t the only important board you need to watch out for.
I’ve heard of people have issues with the circuit board too.
While the same hasn’t happened to me, I know how it can be a problem.
That’s why I recommend you take a look at any circuit boards near the LED light on your impact wrench.
If there’s visible damage or signs of overheating, you know where the problem lies.
In any case, your circuit boards should like mine does below. It’s perfectly intact and has no visible issues whatsoever.
A faulty circuit board can lead to a lack of power to certain parts of the device.
If the device is used too long in this state, other parts of it could get damaged too.
I highly recommend that you rule this possibility out ASAP because of this.
- Water or Moisture Infiltration
Can you see any place near your DeWalt impact wrench’s LED light that might have allowed water or moisture to seep inside?
I don’t need to tell you just how bad water can be for devices, and how it can ruin LEDs too.
Besides, short circuited board might even cause extra issues like making the impact wrench not strong enough to work.
Any kind of water or moisture getting inside of the device could have led to a short circuit, making the LED stop working.
Sometimes you will know that problem starts when press the impact wrench trigger but it is not working.
I’d say you’re lucky if that’s the only thing that happened, because water and moisture can lead to much bigger issues too.
If you suspect this is the case, open your device’s covers and dry it out immediately.
