The Bissell Little Green Proheat is one of the best carpet and upholstery cleaners in the market and my long term partner in cleaning dirty stains of any fabric.
I have been using the Bissell Little Green Proheat cleaner from last one year and I encountered not a single problem until yesterday when the cleaner decided not to pick any dirty water in its tank.
I was faced with this problem for the very first time and I was super confused as to why this was happening.
But before you continue reading this article, you may want to watch first the short video I made about this topic. You can watch it below.
On the video, I briefly discussed the 6 possible reasons why this is happening like the dirty water tank may already be full, there’s a blockage or a flow issue, you used a non-compatible cleaning solution, you’re doing a wrong technique, or it has already lost suction.
6 Reasons Why Bissell Little Green Proheat Dirty Water Tank Not Filling
I decided to take things in my own hands and started trial and error until I found these 6 reasons to be the main culprit as to why your Bissell Little Green Proheat dirty water tank is not filling up.
Reason 1 – Dirty Water Tank is Full
This is one of those beginners mistakes that everyone makes and trust me, I made it too.
One of the reasons why your Bissell Little Green Proheat is not suctioning can be also because the dirty water tank is full and is not able to hold anymore water in.
While it looks like it has space the tank fills up faster than you might expect.
Make sure the water in the dirty tank is below the minimum line otherwise it won’t work. I always empty the tank, and drain all the water out before using it again.
Reason 2 – Blocked or Worn Out Dirty Water Tank
I found this to be one of the most common reasons as I mentioned I was using the cleaner for a very long time, the vents were blocked with debris and other solid materials that blocked the entrance of the dirty water in the tank.
Using just soap and water I cleaned the inner vents and also inspected the rubber seal to see if it was worn out. If you think your rubber seal is worn out in the water tank, replace it to fix the issue.
Reason 3 – Dirty Water Flow Issue
If your Bissell Little Green Proheat cleaner is not receiving water in the tank it might be because of the flow issues. I found out the core reason for this to happen is when your cleaner loses its suction power and all the dirty water just stays in the hose.
Raising the hose can help send the dirty water into the tank but can only prove as a temporary fix. If this is something you are going through I would suggest replacing your cleaner with a new one.
Reason 4 – Non-Compatible Cleaning Solutions
This is where I made my biggest mistake ever. While I used only Bissell cleaning solutions for the initial months I had my cleaner with me, I started using normal cleaning solutions after that in my cleaner.
While I thought this would help me save money it in fact damaged my cleaner and its ability to clean. I would only recommend using Bissel cleaning solution and avoid adding bleach and oil in the solutions at all.
Reason 5 – Wrong Technique
This is one of those beginner mistakes, your dirty tank might not be filling up because you are using the wrong technique.
Don’t be embarrassed I was once in the same position as you are, start by pressing the head firmly on the surface and moving it down, then lift it up and position it again.
Avoid lifting the edged up which will leak the vacuum and the cleaner won’t work as intended.
Reason 6 – Low Suction
After a full year of using and dragging its hose to tiny corners of my car it has definitely sustained some damages.
Make sure there is no leakage around the suctioning hose connector and the hose itself, this will lead to the cleaner to lose suction and not work at all.
Make sure the dirty water tank is sealed with this valve properly, if it’s not sealed properly the suctioning will not work and the cleaner would not suck in the water.
I also have a short video about this topic and you may watch it below. On the video, I discussed the 4 possible reasons why your Bissell Little Green Proheat cleaner would lose suction and don’t pick up.
