If your Avid Power 20V battery suddenly stops charging and only flashes red when put on the charger using the Avid Power battery charger, don’t worry, you are not alone.
This happened to me last week when I used all the power out of my Avid Power 20V battery while using my tools, but when I went to charge it again, the charger flashed a red flashing light, meaning there was something wrong with the battery.
By the way, I have made a short video about this topic and you can watch it below before you go on reading this article.
I fixed my Avid Power 20V battery by jump-starting using another healthy Avid Power 20V battery. On the video, I connected the two batteries for about 15 seconds. Then, I recharged the bad battery again and it’s now charging fine.
Simple Way to Reset an Avid Power 20V Battery Not Charging
For a long time, I kept thinking the charger was not working correctly, but after some online research and watching some YouTube videos, I figured out the problem and found a working fix. This is how you can reset your Avid Power 20V battery that is not charging.
How to Reset the Avid Power 20V Battery?
The easiest way to fix your Avid Power battery not charging is to reset it, while there is no physical button to reset the battery quickly you might have to use your inner nerd to do this. Follow the below steps to fully reset your Avid Power 20V battery.
1. Take a healthy 20V Avid Power battery and identify the negative and positive terminals on the top of the battery. These terminals are indicated by a + and – symbol on the Avid Power 20V batteries, while other batteries might use a B+ and B- symbol.
2. Then, use a male-to-male jumper cable to connect the positive terminal of the healthy battery to the positive terminal of the battery that is not charging and the negative terminal of the healthy battery to the negative terminal of the dead battery.
3. Leave both of the batteries connected for 15 seconds and then disconnect the terminals from each other. This will leave the dead battery with enough voltage to be charged to be recognized by the charger and be charged again.
4. Try putting the battery into the Avid Power battery charger, the charger should indicate steady red light meaning that the battery is being charged again. Leave the battery on charging for at least 1 hour or until the charger indicates green light.
The Avid Power 20V battery not charging problem is caused when the battery is overused and drops its voltage below a certain threshold, leaving it unrecognizable by the charger.
This is a common problem in power tool batteries, and by jumping the power using a healthy battery, the problem can be fixed easily. While it is always recommended not to use the battery until it dies, humans are vulnerable to making mistakes, so don’t worry, try my method and bring your Avid Power 20V battery back to life.
