Battery Tender Red Light Stays On & Won’t Go Off Reason

My YokGrid battery died after I left my car light on for 2 days in the garage, while it was a genuine mistake I did not worry and simply put the battery on a Battery Tender.

Usually it takes a day to fully charge it to its max level but this time even after 2 days of continuous charging the Battery Tender did not turn green.

The Tender stayed red and it didn’t go off, I thought the Battery Tender had gone bad but when I tried charging another battery it charged perfectly and turned green in just 3 hours.

This is where I realized there was something else that was wrong and I opened its manual to find the right answers and here is what I found.

By the way, I also have a short video about this topic which you may watch before you continue reading this article. You can watch it below.

The Battery Tender red light stay on after many hours or many days because of the battery itself. The battery might be worn and deplete the charge faster than the Battery Tender charger can charge it.

The Reason Why Your Battery Tender Red Light Stays On & Won’t Go Off

Once I had access to the Battery Tender’s manual book, I skipped to the page where it described how the lights worked.

The Tender stayed red

At first I thought it was the Battery Tender that had gone bad but turns out there is something else that was causing this problem.

The green light on the Battery Tender flashes after the battery has reached a capacity of 80% and more and at this time the battery is ready to be used again.

This is normal as long as the red light changes to green light but unfortunately in my case the red light didn’t go off after 2 full days of letting it charge on the Battery Tender.

This meant that my battery was deeply discharged or sulfated and was not able to reach full charge.

it showed a healthy charge of 12V but the Battery Tender still didn't turn green.

I even checked the voltage of my 12V car battery using a multimeter and it showed a healthy charge of 12V but the Battery Tender still didn’t turn green.

This was happening because the battery had an internal fault or was worn out to the point that it was not able to hold a charge.

If you are also having problems with your battery and the Battery Tender red light stays on even after hours of charging the battery then it means that your battery has gone bad and is not able to hold charge.

It’s normal if your battery is really old or is used for high power supply, while it may work properly it will discharge faster than the Battery Tender is able to charge it. Only replacing your battery with a new one is the right solution for you.
