Eneloop vs Eneloop Pro Battery: Which Will Last Longer?

Eneloop vs Eneloop Pro Battery

Ever wondered if the Eneloop Pro AA battery is actually worth the extra money over the standard Eneloop battery? Well I had this question in my mind for a very long time until one day when I decided to clear things once and for all for myself and for everyone.

I grabbed both the versions of the AA batteries, two Eneloop Pro and two of standard Eneloop and put them on a head to head real world test to see which will last longer and if the Eneloop Pro is worth the hype and money.

I also made a short video about this topic and you can watch it below.  On the video, I have 2 pieces of Panasonic Eneloop and Eneloop Pro batteries.

The Eneloop Pro batteries have more capacity than the standard Eneloop batteries and they also lasted longer on my fan experiment.

Eneloop vs Eneloop Pro Battery: Which is Better?

First I started off by checking the rated capacity of both the batteries, the Eneloop standard comes with a rated capacity of  2000 mAh, and the Eneloop Pro comes with a rated capacity of 2450 mAh.

Eneloop standard comes with a rated capacity of  2000 mAh

I used a AA battery tester to see the real deal inside the capacity and the results came out to be shockingly good.

Not only the Eneloop Pro had more power than its rated capacity of 2450 mAh but the standard Eneloop also performed well with its capacity.

The Eneloop Pro batteries gave me 2502 and 2489 mAh, while the standard Eneloop gave me 2054 mAh and 2005 mAh

the Eneloop Pro comes with a rated capacity of 2450 mAh.

Now that things were clear and both the batteries seemed to be healthy, I charged both the pairs of batteries to 100%. After they were fully charged I could finally start my experiment.

You know it’s very important to know the meanings of the different indicator lights on your Panasonic battery charger so I also made a short video about this and you can watch it below.

The green light means the battery is charging and once the green light turned off it means the battery is now fully charged.

I grabbed a pair of hand held fans which I grabbed from a Chinese market at a very low price. While I bought them to help me beat the heat I never knew they could help me test my AA batteries one day.

I placed Eneloop standard batteries in one fan and the Eneloop Pro in the other to let them run overnight to see which one will keep the fan running, and here are the results.

I placed the batteries in the fan

  • The standard Eneloop powered through for 9 hours and 17 minutes before calling it quits and running out of power.
  • The Eneloop Pro, on the other hand went on to run for almost 10 hours and 21 minutes before losing all its power.

the Eneloop Pro did last 1 hour longer than the standard Eneloop battery.

So yes, the Eneloop Pro did last 1 hour longer than the standard Eneloop battery. While the difference is not that big it can still prove to be crucial in an emergency situation.

Both the batteries are reliable and affordable but it’s the Eneloop Pro that will last you longer, so make your decision wisely.
