When you begin a brick walkway, you know what you want; by the end, there’s always some sand left over and extra bits of brick. That middle section isn’t so much a result of ability as it is mathematics. You may be able to see the pattern in things. However, until you factor in the wasted space between each brick, the thickness of the base layer, and how many pieces will get chopped up when you make curves, your shopping list will be more wishful thinking than anything else. But what’s the biggest input? The input no one thinks about is waste. Five percent excess for cuts might be all you’ll need for a straight path done in a simple bond.
