Tongue-and-groove boards create interlocking edges and shadow lines that dont exist with drywall. Before you get started, figure out how much material is needed. Boards come in bundles, and if you order too much or too little, it will waste both your money and time.
A nominal 1×6 pine V-groove board, for example, shows only about 5.25 inches on its exposed face. That nominal width include the tongue that slips into the neighboring groove. So the actual width installed is less than six inches. Measure it to be sure. Your total need will depend on that measured number, which is what the calculator do. People tend to use the nominal width and come up short by ten or fifteen percent. And thats before subtracting any waste.
How to Calculate Wood Board Needs
